I wouldn't call it a "horror" movie really, it's suspenseful at best, but it's a fun flick if you're looking for something more intriguing than scary. I went into this thinking it was just going to be a casual watch but ended up being glued to the screen the entire time. As time goes by he starts to learn that the lighthouse is a very dangerous place to be, that the old man is not who he seems and that the mysterious woman is probably a ghost, but not really. He stays with the man in the lighthouse and kills time by helping out while he waits for the next ferry to come by, in two weeks.

The only people around to help him are an old man who maintains the lighthouse and a mysterious woman who lives in the woods. Subscribers get my seasonal viewing guide: Not Your Usual Halloween Movies. He wakes up the next morning to find himself crashed onto a desolate beach with a bad case of amnesia. The movie starts off with a guy fighting a violent storm on the open sea in a row boat. The casting, acting, pacing score and suspense are all top tier. But don't let that sway you, once you get past this you'll be in for a surprisingly good show. The pelican's name is not used in the short, but Disney A to Z reveals that his name is Marblehead. 1 In the cartoon, Donald battles with an angry pelican to keep his lighthouse light on. The CGI is super low budget, as are the practical effects. Among the few positives here is the rather intriguing mystery built up around the island and its ghostly past which runs pretty much throughout the movie. Lighthouse Keeping is a 1946 American animated cartoon directed by Jack Hannah and produced by Walt Disney.

The first thing you'll notice if you sit down to watch this one is that it has a seriously Made for TV vibe. The movie thankfully expanded on Poe's napkin notes and fleshed out the story with more characters, purpose and plot twists. The plot was about an old lighthouse keeper and his experiences with solitude and paranoia. Historians can only speculate whether he died before getting to the third page or if it was supposed to be a short story. It's kinda crazy because this last work of Poe's was only two pages long. Lighthouse Keeper is based off Edgar Allan Poe's last story he was working on before he died back in 1849 called The Lighthouse. Sea monsters and myths of the old sailor worlds play a huge role in the film's world-building, including one of cinema's most terrifying depictions of merfolk.

Lighthouse Keeper was directed by Benjamin Cooper (who also directed The Brink) and stars Vernon Wells (from The Horde and Silent Night, Zombie Night), Matt O'Neill (from Hide) and Rachel Riley (from 8213: Gacy House). It's ostensibly a chamber piece of a tete-a-tete between an old lighthouse keeper, played by Willem Dafoe, and a fresh employee keeper, played by Robert Pattinson.
